Adult & Teen Services Library Assistant, Seasonal Part-Time
The Downers Grove Public Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a busy environment to join the library’s Adult & Teen Services department as a seasonal part-time Library Assistant for Summer 2024.

The Adult & Teen Services Library Assistant will primarily work at the Teen Central desk,
serving teens in grades 7-12 and is responsible for providing reference and readers' advisory service and assisting with programming and other duties.
 

We are looking for candidates who will:

  • Provide excellent customer service and reference services to patrons in a busy
    environment

  • Learn and develop expertise in teen literature to provide stellar reader’s advisory
    services

    Assist with our popular Summer Reading Club and other programs

  • Work well as part of a team as well as independently
  • Support equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace
  • Efficiently handle problems involving several variables in everyday situations

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and some college coursework
  • One year of relevant customer service experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
  • Experience with ILS software preferred
This is a seasonal, part-time position averaging 10 hours per week from May 20-August 16, 2024. The Assistant will be scheduled for Mondays 3-6 p.m., Wednesdays 3-6 p.m., and two weekends per month, Saturdays 1-5 p.m. and Sundays 1-5 p.m. Hourly pay is from $17.84, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include paid time off. This is a non- IMRF position.
