Part-Time Children’s Services Summer Clerk (Temporary)

Each summer, thousands of children and their families visit the Kids Room to participate in both the Summer Reading Club and the department’s numerous program offerings.  To assist during this busy time, the Kids Room is seeking a temporary Summer Library Clerk.  The Summer Library Clerk helps children and their caregivers register and receive prizes for the Summer Reading Club, works on a variety of special summer projects, and helps maintain the appearance of the department by picking up materials and keeping items clean.  Candidates should be ready to jump into a busy atmosphere with enthusiasm.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Organized, detailed-oriented, and accurate in their work
  • Excited about working with people, especially children, in a fast-paced and busy environment
  • Adept at using computers for basic tasks
  • Able to work independently on assigned projects and has good time management skills

This opening is for a temporary, part-time summer position averaging 15-20 hours per week, for approximately 10-12 weeks.  Hours may include some nights and weekends. The salary is $12.00 per hour. Candidates must be 16 years old to apply.

Graphic Design & Display Coordinator

Are you experienced in brand management and using style guides? Can you design in a variety of media, all with the same look? Do you appreciate art and enjoy supporting artists by curating and exhibiting their work?  If so, this is the job for you!

Our busy, customer-focused library is seeking a creative-minded Graphics & Display Coordinator who can create a visual identity for the library.

This position is focused on creating and maintaining excellent standards in library branding by maintaining the currency of the library’s Style Guide and incorporating our brand with advanced marketing (primarily promotion) and communications strategies. The ideal candidate should be comfortable in graphic design, printing and mounting, and gallery exhibition. This position will work through all aspects of the creative process: from generating ideas, to constructing visuals, to distributing end products – all while handling revisions and adjustments with a smile.

We are looking for candidates who will:

  • Be a motivated self-starter, using creative and organizational skills
  • Assist in the promotion and advertising of the library’s mission, initiatives, and programs
  • Coordinate displays and exhibits to support local arts and culture in the Downers Grove community
  • Collaborate with coworkers on marketing materials to ensure Style Guide compliance
  • Be friendly, open, and willing to try new ideas
  • Support community outreach initiatives using digital and print media

This full-time position requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in art, graphic design, or related degree, and a minimum two years graphic design experience. Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud a must. Marketing, digital, and print media experience preferred. From $20.00/hr DOQ. A generous benefits package is included.
