PAWSitive Therapy Troupe

The PAWSitive Therapy Troup is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing registered therapy dogs with individuals in health care and educational settings to bring comfort, support, and encouragement through the unique healing power of the human-animal bond.

Each of the 54 therapy dog teams has undergone rigorous training and testing to provide safe and effective interactions. Therapy dogs range in size from a 10 lb. “Shichon” to a 180 lb. Leonberger!

Since its founding in 1997, PAWSitive Therapy Troupe has grown to serve several hospitals, 15 elementary schools, 10 libraries, and multiple colleges and universities.

In Downers Grove, PAWSitive Therapy Troupe serves

  • Hillcrest and Pierce Downers Elementary Schools: “Read With Me” programs to help make reading fun and relaxing for children

  • Downers Grove North and South High Schools: final exam stress relief

  • Indian Trail Elementary school and the Little Friends Spectrum Vocational Services: social workers and special education students

  • Oak Trace and the Community Adult Daycare

PAWSitive Therapy Troupe is always looking for new volunteers to help expand the number of facilities they serve. They offer training classes and testing on a regular basis to become a registered therapy team. They will be at the library with therapy dogs and to answer questions on:  Sept. 14, noon; Sept. 24, 10:00 a.m.; Sept. 28, noon.
