West Suburban Community Pantry
The mission of the West Suburban Community Pantry is to offer food and other resources for the hungry, while empowering those in need to improve their quality of life.
Rooted in the love and concern of a group of neighbors who started a small food pantry in the 1970s, WSCP was formally incorporated in 1992. In 2018, WSCP distributed 1.6 million pounds of food and served 47,198 people, including 18,638 children and 6,366 seniors. WSCP provides several supplemental programs for the most vulnerable of clients, such as a weekend backpack program, car seat program, senior home delivery, and mobile pantries. Each year, WSCP serves approximately 185 families from Downers Grove while also delivering meals to three homebound seniors and providing breakfast and healthy snacks to schools.
Distributed 607 backpacks filled with school supplies in 2018.
Serves approximately 4,000 individuals each month.
Three times a month, mobile pantries go into high-need areas to provide food.
There are several ways to get involved, including volunteering during client hours, sorting food and stocking shelves, or donating goods.
